Adventures – A/B

Water Adventures

Objective: Sailors will improve their sailing and boating skills and will have fun in a variety of vessels, including Hobie Cats, RS Quests, Windsurfers, SUP Paddleboards, kayaks, and canoes.

Duration: 2-week sessions


Previous Experience or Knowledge:
Sailors must pass a swim test and have completed Intermediate Opti (A/B) or 420 (B)

Age Group: A – 9-12 years; B – 12-16 years

Boat and equipment:
USCGA Personal Flotation Device required; WYC will provide all boats

Assessment: Sailors should have the proficiency to feel comfortable as a skipper with an instructor or a peer sailor in the boat

Days and Times:

A – Monday, Wednesday, Friday 9a-12p

B – Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 1-4p

By the end of this class, sailor should be able to do the following:


Rigging:
Rig and de-rig sails on RS Quest, Hobie Wave, Windsurfer

Sailing: Sail upwind, downwind and tack

Knots and Seamanship:

Demonstrate cleat hitch and figure eight knot, coiling, bowline.

Understand basic rules of the road and boating safety.
