As we ready for another Thanksgiving Chowder, we look back on a busy and successful year at Weekapaug Yacht Club.
The summer of 2011 saw sailing, the heart of WYC's mission, take center stage. Children and adult sailing classes encouraged all sailors to take next steps in their level of expertise. The Nat Earle Opti Regatta and The Leo Telesmanick Beetle Regatta brought sailors from around the world to our pond. Additionally, our Wednesday and Sunday races encouraged active member participation. We look forward to building upon 2011's sailing successes.
A number of social events brought our community together. Another successful Art Show, the "Raise the Roof" fundraiser, July and August Awards Dinners, Salt Pond Safaris and other special gatherings celebrated the talents and resources that make WYC a unique place.
As we head into 2012, we recognize all the work we have to do. While Hurricane Irene spared the club, it also exposed our need for contingency arrangements. Plans for capital improvements are under way. We continue to work with legal counsel, the Weekapaug Fire District and The Weekapaug Inn to advocate a best path for the community in the wake of imminent Westerly Harbor Commission decisions. As always, there is much to consider at WYC.
Attached please find a link to a survey that will help us shape our plans for the Summer of 2012: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/7SWG6CN. Please complete the survey by December 15, 2011 to allow us sufficient time to take your considerations into account.
As a final note, I would like to highlight the need for increased volunteerism at Weekapaug Yacht Club. Whether it's cleaning up after the Chowder, towing a boat, helping to supervise Bingo, assisting at the Nat Earle Walk/Run, or supporting a WYC fundraiser, your efforts are welcomed and appreciated.
See you on the pond!
Fondly,
Jim Best
Commodore
